Clearbit for Salesforce Installation Guide

Our quick install process will get you up and running with Clearbit in under 5 minutes. If you haven't yet installed the package, you can head to our  AppExchange page to get started.

Our free trial includes 50 free enrichments. To upgrade your account, simply head to the Billing tab and choose your desired plan.

After you've installed the package, head to the Installed Packages page in the Setup menu. Click the Configure link next to the Clearbit Integration and you'll be greeted by our Welcome Page.

Click the Connect to Clearbit button to either create a new Clearbit account or log in to an existing one. If you can't log in to an existing Clearbit account but have an API Key, you can click over to the Settings tab to enter it directly. That's all for settings! Time to install the widgets.

Note: By default Clearbit will overwrite blank any standard blank fields that we find information for. If you'd rather that not happen, you can turn off that functionality from the Settings tab.

Clearbit comes with two widgets that can be used on Leads, Contacts, and Accounts. They are not required to enrich new leads in the background, automatically populate blank fields, or to map Clearbit data to custom fields with formulas, but they are super handy!

We'll be working with Lead objects in our Installation tutorials, but the process is the same for Contacts & Accounts.

Standard Widget

The standard widget automatically displays important Clearbit data directly on the page. It pulls all the data live and will also query fresh data from Clearbit every time your view a record to ensure your data stays fresh.

  1. If you're using Salesforce Classic, head to Setup –> Customize –> [Object Name] –> Page Layouts –> Edit  on the object of your choice. If you're using Salesforce Lightning, you'll follow a slightly different path: Setup Home –> Objects and Fields –> Object Manager –> [Object Name] –> Page Layouts –> Edit.  We'll be working with leads in this example, but the process is the same for contacts and accounts.
  2. In the upper box, click and drag a Section
  3. In the upper box, click on Visual Force Pages.
  4. Drag a Section onto the layout. Title it Clearbit, and make sure to check the 1-Column radio button. Hit Save.
  5. Drag Clearbit Lead Widget into your new section.
  6. Click the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner of the widget area. Set the height to 400px. Click Save.

We highly recommend adding the widget to the lead, contact, and account object layouts.

Social Bar

The social bar fits perfectly at the top of the page and simply provides quick links to the important social media profiles of the person and company. Please note that it requires the presence of the Standard Widget for live refresh.

  1. Head to the Edit Layout page of an object of your choice. We'll be working with leads, but the process is the same for contacts and accounts.
  2. In the upper box, click on Visual Force Pages.
  3. Drag the Clearbit Social Bar into the Lead Information section.
  4. Click the wrench icon in the upper right hand corner of the widget area. Set the height to 35px. Click save!

Enabling Clearbit for your Users

Now that you have the widgets installed, the last step is to make sure the right users have access to Clearbit. The managed package includes 10 licenses which you can assign to specific Salesforce users -  contact the Clearbit team if you need additional seats!

  1. Browse to Setup -> Installed Packages and find the ClearbitIntegration line item. Click Manage Licenses.
  2. Hit the Add Users button and choose which users to enable Clearbit for. Enabled users will be able to see the Clearbit widget and accompanying data. Unlicensed users will simply not see the widget and data.
  3. If leads are created automatically (ex. website signup forms), make sure that the user these leads are created under is granted a license. This is often a non-person user such as LeadBot or an Admin - check with your Administrator if you aren't sure which user this may be.

Well done! You have successfully installed Clearbit for Salesforce.

Newly created leads, contacts, and accounts should automatically be enriched along with those records that are manually opened. Behind the scenes, Clearbit is pulling in data and storing it as a custom Clearbit Object. By default, certain standard blank fields (ex. name, title, company, emp size) are overwritten with Clearbit data.

Now it's time to get a bit more advanced - use the links below to learn how to use Clearbit in custom fields and reports.
